But this fitted beautifully. The plastic nut underneath was defeating all my spanners and wrenches, it’s such a strange shape, but this fitted beautifully. No wonder it’s called a ‘doddler’, it’s a doddle.
I got a new bathroom put in and had difficulty fitting the toilet seat because there is not too much room at the back to get your hands up to tighten the fixtures. This little tool does the job in minutes and is easy to use. Like that it has two different size settings at each end so it will fix many different fixtures.
The spanner side was what i am looking for to remove the old seat , but the other side need some improvement as it didn’t work – a bit wide – but my new seat was easy to tight with hands. Here are the specifications for the Select Products Toilet Seat Fitting Tool:
- No more struggling to get to the bolts to change the toilet seat
- Easy-to-use in hard to reach places.
- Strong glass-filled nylon.
- unique pivot system.
Be careful of the dimensions of your toilet. I bought one of these, but have applied to return it because it wouldn’t fit. In order for the device to work, you need at least 10cms vertical clearance between the toilet seat fitting and any part of the toilet pan itself, because you need to insert the end of the toilet seat bolt into the hole at the end of the doddler. It’s a good idea in principle, but may not suit everyone.
Saves a lot of time and bad language.

I have just fitted a new oak toilet seat with those plastic screw fittings that seem to be quite common nowadays. I couldn’t get the screws quite tight enough by hand so i ordered this little tool. It did the job perfectly and i now have a firmly fixed loo seat that no longer wobbles. Although several folk here have mentioned that the doddler is expensive for what it is (and they are right), it did save me having to call out an even more expensive handyman so i am happy.
Expensive and not as good as it looks. Had this gadget operated to expectations then i would say it was 5 stars and excellent value for money, that really was what i was expecting, but it fell quite a long way short in use. The joint in the middle, which looks like it would make a handy lever when at right angles to the main shaft, moves in 2 rather than 1 dimension – this makes it difficult to use it as a lever. It’s also very easy to give yourself a very nasty pinch. The flesh from your hand and fingers can easily get trapped in the joint. Furthermore, because the head has slots for a variety of nuts, it makes locating the correct one a bit hit and miss. It’s very easy to engage the nut of the loo seat in the wrong combination of slots in the head. That said, once you’ve got used to the quirks it is possible to use this to do the job it’s intended for. It’s ok, but i wasn’t expecting to find several flaws in the design, and also give myself the skin pinch from hell given the price.
